Applied Nutrition Research

The human gastrointestinal tract hosts an impressive array of microorganisms that perform critical nutritional and physiological functions. The Applied Nutrition Research team at USU is exploring ways to enhance human/ bacterial interactions in order to promote optimal health and wellness.

The USTAR-funded team has experience in areas that include probiotics, immunity, inflammation, epigenetics and cancer biology. Led by Michael Lefevre, the team has recently expanded its activities by continuing clinical studies with a well-known nutritional supplement company to explore the connection between antioxidants and air pollution in the respiratory systems of at-risk groups.
